NEWS 29/1/08: Emerald acquires new serials, series and books from Elsevier. Academic and professional literature publisher Emerald Group Publishing Ltd., UK, has announced the acquisition of a programme of Management and Social Sciences book serials, series and monographs from Elsevier, comprising about 2,000 titles.
January 2007, Emerald Group Publishing is pleased to announce its recent deal with the Council of Australian University Librarians (CAUL). This five- year consortial agreement provides CAUL’s 1.1 million users with access to Emerald’s high quality collection of online digital journals and databases. Press Release.

MARC Records (29/4/09)
MARC records are now available for both of Emerald’s eBook Series Collections. Emerald offers MARC records for both its print and electronic content free of charge.  The records have been created for Emerald by Nielsen Book Data, a provider of book data for over 110 countries worldwide, and conform to the MARC21 standard. Records will be updated on a quarterly basis to incorporate new volumes as they are added to the two eBook Series Collections.

A no penalties opt-out clause after 3 years will be written into the agreement.
The publisher will guarantee the agreed pricing for the 5-year term.
Where more than one database is purchased, an additional 5% discount on the total price of both databases will apply

  1. How can I keep up-to-date with changes to the Emerald databases?

    2. Register for the Emerald Administrator's update at www.emeraldinsight.com/cgi-bin/resources.pl. All changes to the database will be notified via this list.
  2. How do I set up access to the new Emerald service via our Proxy servers?

    3. Electronic resources librarians should add the following address to their proxy server settings:
    *.emeraldinsight.com
    In order to maintain all current links it is worth adding:

    *.anbar.com

  3. Server downtime is often worked to suit western business and time zones. Can this be avoided for customers in the Far East and Australasia?

    4. Because there are now almost 30 servers world-wide supporting the Emerald service, we are able to carry out essential work on individual servers at times appropriate to that location.
  4. When will Emerald be SFX enabled?

    5. This development will be live during the early part of 2002.
  5. When will users be able to email articles?

    6. This is a development for 2002 and it is hoped it will be available in the early part of the year.
  6. Can an organisation link to individual articles?

    7. Yes. Go the Database Help Files at www.emeraldinsight.com/vl=85065621/cl=12/nw=1/rpsv/ft/help5.htm and see the Linking to Emerald section.
  7. Does the Emerald alert service migrate from emerald-library to emeraldinsight and how do you remove journals from the selection?

    8. Yes it does, and users need to contact the listserve and request that the journal selection be amended.
  8. Concerns were raised as to the lack of words on the home page and that the site would benefit from links to the services pages throughout the Emerald site.

    9. These points were raised with Emerald staff, a number of changes are planned.
  9. Will Emerald be Z39.50 compliant?

    10. It is unlikely that Emerald will undertake this development, though one of our partners may.
  10. Is Internet Explorer a preferred browser?

    11. No. Both Navigator and Explorer above 4.0 should work equally well.
  11. The fact that the Clear Search facility is a manual process needs to be made more obvious to the user.

    12. I have raised this point with the Emerald development team and suggested the following re-wording
    "On logging off, the Search History will not clear automatically. Please click to clear."
  1. Does Emerald still capture non-article content?

    2. Yes it does and is accessible via appropriate journals - many in engineering and property fields.
  2. Does Emerald Fulltext time out and if so what is the duration?

    3. Time out is currently 10 minutes but it is hoped that soon this will be extended to 30 minutes.
  3. If you visit the Emerald Abstracts home page it is impossible to see if there is a live subscription.

    4. I have requested that we add a tick to identify which, if any of the 3 Abstracts databases are live.
  4. Is the CrossRef project making any headway?

    5. Yes Emerald is still very much a part of this ongoing project and headway is being made.
  5. Where would I find a list of persistent URLs?
