The Blackwell Science/Munksgaard Collection model provides online access for CAUL and CONZUL members, to a collection of 260 Blackwell Science and Munksgaard titles. The price is independent of the historical spend on paper subscriptions. This model is designed for institutions that want to gain online access to the widest range of titles, whilst retaining their core of existing print subscriptions.

1) Pricing

The list price of a paper subscription to all the titles in the Blackwell Science/Munksgaard Collection is over AUD$220,000, including over AUD$25,000 of new titles online this year. This total of over AUD$220,000 is discounted by over 97% to just AUD$6,015 per site. The price of access to the Blackwell Science/Munksgaard Collection has 2 components: an Admission Fee and a Fee Per Site. The CAUL/CONZUL fees for 2001 are:

• Pricing is valid for 2001. The fees are based on the number of titles included and the paper price of each. Prices will be evaluated for 2002 on a similar basis.
• This agreement applies only to CAUL/CONZUL academic and educational libraries.
• This agreement for online access is not intended to replace paper subscriptions. We reserve the right to withdraw the offer if the value of cancellations at a site exceeds the lower of either the Fee Per Site or 5% of total spend by that site.
• This agreement is a special package deal for access to all online journals. It is not possible to purchase consortial access to individual journals under this agreement.
• If CAUL/CONZUL wishes to include a new Site during the term of the agreement, the Site will be billed for the full annual fee per Site, regardless of when the Site joined.
• During the term of this agreement, CAUL/CONZUL members will have full online access to material from previous years where available.
• Archival access to material will be granted on request in accordance with the terms set out in the Blackwell Science license agreement.
• All other terms of use are covered by the standard Blackwell Science agreement, which includes the provision for course pack use and paper inter-library loan. See www.blackwell-science.com/license.

• Online access is available through Synergy - the Full Text online journal service from Blackwell Science and Munksgaard (www.blackwell-synergy.com) as well as through aggregator services.

The Blackwell Science/Munksgaard Choice model is designed for institutions that want to select paper and/or online subscriptions on a title-by-title basis. 260 titles are currently available under this model.

1) Pricing

Blackwell Science and Munksgaard separate online subscriptions from print subscriptions. We believe that the online version should be less expensive than the print version, because the publisher should pass on the cost savings in manufacturing, warehousing and distribution. We therefore offer an online-only subscription at 90% of the price of a print subscription. Similarly for customers wishing to take a combined online-plus-print subscription we only add 10% to the price of a print subscription.

(This multiple-title discount does not apply to print or combined online-plus-print subscriptions, where the economies of scale are not so appreciable).

Example: An institution would like online only and combined prices for the European Journal of Neuroscience.
 

If they were to purchase more than 50 online-only titles then the price of each online-only subscription would go down to 85% of the paper price, so an online-only subscription to this title would cost AUD$2,747

2) Conditions and Notes

• Multiple-title discounts only apply for titles ordered at the same time, later orders for less than 20 titles will be priced at the standard rate.
• Subscriptions are for the 2001 calendar year.
• During the term of the agreement, subscribers will have full online access to material from previous years where available.
• Archival access to material will be granted on request in accordance with the terms set out in the Blackwell Science license agreement.

The 260 titles listed below will be available online from 2001. • Health Information and Libraries Journal was formerly Health Libraries Review

Site definitions for 2001.

This obviously affects just the universities with offshore campuses and the medical schools; and it would seem fair and reasonable that these institutions should be paying more for the extra sites covered. It also has implications for the print spend conditions of the offer (ie at least 95% of print spend must be retained by the libraries taking part).

We shall be able to discuss the nominal supplementary charge with the institutions concerned as and when they indicate their interest for 2001.
